Rather poor customer service and lack of transparency in my inspections makes it difficult for me to recommend, or want to hire them again.Firstly, I decided to hire Shelton Home Inspections to do a new home inspection on a home that I was under contract on because of the positive Google reviews. Initial customer service from Christine was good overall, but turned rather rudely shortly after I started asking questions on specifics and expectations. She just said to raise the questions to the inspector. Probably should have walked away from the company at that point but I decided to trust the reviews because I wanted a job well done.Initial home inspection was good overall I'd say. Looking back though there were concerns with the HVAC and ductwork that should have been caught by the inspector and mentioned on the inspection report. Case and point: visible growth on ductwork/boxes junctions in attic. Looking closely at the photos in the report, it is apparent that the mastic tape and sealant is not completely white and free of mildew / growth as it should be - it has dark growth on it. This should have definitely been noticed by the inspector and mentioned, in my opinion.Secondly, I had the inspector come back out for a re-inspection because one of the attic access panels was sealed during the first inspection visit. The main problem with the inspection is this: the inspector took a photo of the access panel slightly open, but not all the way open, such that I could not see the attic in the photo. "Odd", I thought to myself at the time, since the other two access panels in the home were completely removed in their respective photos. I didn't overthink it though as I was preoccupied with the home passing the inspection so that we could close. I trusted the inspector to act in my best interest, or at least impartial to the process. The reason that the inspector did not add a completely open access panel photo to the report is because there is conduit and an electrical wire directly above the attic access space, laying directly on the wood. This is a code violation. Why he didn't mention this to me over the phone or in the report is disappointing and made me lose trust in the company.I recently called Christine to ask her about this, and inline with her past customer experience, she was dismissive of my concern. Only when I pushed back and asked to speak to a manager or the owner (she told me she is the owner at this point) did she actually listen to my concern. Long story short, she called me back later the same day, after having spoken with the inspector, and told me that the reason that he didn't mention it in his report is because they (Shelton) "DO NOT REPORT CODE VIOLATIONS" on there reports. I was at a loss for words at this point since that is why I hired a home inspector. I didn't even argue back because at this point I realized she did not want to help solve my problem caused by the inexperience / dishonesty of her inspector.This was my experience with the company and I decided to write a review so that others are aware of how your home inspection experience may go if you hire Shelton Home Inspections.

Once again Shelton Home Inspections came through with a professionally conducted and thorough inspection supporting our recent endeavor to get a reasonable rate for Home Insurance. With their inspection in hand, we can represent the home adequately - I hope - to meet the needs of the underwriter. Zack, our inspector, was cordial and engaging as I hovered over him whenever possible. Their inspections are so well done, I ordered a sewage line inspection which they promptly and efficiently conducted and commented on the condition of the lines and providing a photo and video representation of the lines in the event we need to repair the lines. With this inspection, we now have three under our belt with Shelton and we could not be happier, unless they would do them for free. Great Job Shelton - with a shout out to Zack and Christine.

The only thing that frustrates me about Shelton Home inspections is that I didn’t know about them until after I bought my home.I had realized after living in the house for 2 months that something was office and quickly realized that the inspector I had hired previously had completely failed to properly inspect the foundation of the home despite having paid them too.Shelton came out and did an exceptionally detailed job, sat down with me on the phone and provided us a ton an options for how to approach any and all issues.What’s the best part is that while the quality and extent of work he did (included a sewer scope) was faaaar superior to the other inspectors, he still came in as the much more affordable option.Good inspector.
