Shelton did a fantastic job throughout our entire buying process. I live out of town and was not able to make it during the inspection process but they really went to bat for us during the crucial 4 pt. inspection process. Recently purchased a house and had it inspected by them and can’t list the number of things that are wrong / missed by them. Freezer & ice maker on the fridge…broken. Hot water in one of the bathrooms…. Broken. Paid extra for a “pool” inspection and they didn’t even check the salt system to see if the buttons worked right…. broken & costs 3k to replace.Pest service thinks we got a rat/mouse under our house too. Was assured that they didn’t find any droppings after asking specifically about the space. Watch out bc their reports full of pictures don’t tell the whole story.

Rather poor customer service and lack of transparency in my inspections makes it difficult for me to recommend, or want to hire them again.Firstly, I decided to hire Shelton Home Inspections to do a new home inspection on a home that I was under contract on because of the positive Google reviews. Initial customer service from Christine was good overall, but turned rather rudely shortly after I started asking questions on specifics and expectations. She just said to raise the questions to the inspector. Probably should have walked away from the company at that point but I decided to trust the reviews because I wanted a job well done.Initial home inspection was good overall I'd say. Looking back though there were concerns with the HVAC and ductwork that should have been caught by the inspector and mentioned on the inspection report. Case and point: visible growth on ductwork/boxes junctions in attic. Looking closely at the photos in the report, it is apparent that the mastic tape and sealant is not completely white and free of mildew / growth as it should be - it has dark growth on it. This should have definitely been noticed by the inspector and mentioned, in my opinion.Secondly, I had the inspector come back out for a re-inspection because one of the attic access panels was sealed during the first inspection visit. The main problem with the inspection is this: the inspector took a photo of the access panel slightly open, but not all the way open, such that I could not see the attic in the photo. "Odd", I thought to myself at the time, since the other two access panels in the home were completely removed in their respective photos. I didn't overthink it though as I was preoccupied with the home passing the inspection so that we could close. I trusted the inspector to act in my best interest, or at least impartial to the process. The reason that the inspector did not add a completely open access panel photo to the report is because there is conduit and an electrical wire directly above the attic access space, laying directly on the wood. This is a code violation. Why he didn't mention this to me over the phone or in the report is disappointing and made me lose trust in the company.I recently called Christine to ask her about this, and inline with her past customer experience, she was dismissive of my concern. Only when I pushed back and asked to speak to a manager or the owner (she told me she is the owner at this point) did she actually listen to my concern. Long story short, she called me back later the same day, after having spoken with the inspector, and told me that the reason that he didn't mention it in his report is because they (Shelton) "DO NOT REPORT CODE VIOLATIONS" on there reports. I was at a loss for words at this point since that is why I hired a home inspector. I didn't even argue back because at this point I realized she did not want to help solve my problem caused by the inexperience / dishonesty of her inspector.This was my experience with the company and I decided to write a review so that others are aware of how your home inspection experience may go if you hire Shelton Home Inspections.
